May is a special month for me...not only do I get to celebrate Mother's Day - I also get to celebrate my birthday.  Which just happens to be today.  :-)  Being a mom is the hardest job I have ever had - but it has also been the most rewarding.  My children teach ...

What Do Moms REALLY Want For Mother's Day?

In 1914 the United States Congress designated the second Sunday in May as Mother's Day, and required that the President proclaim the holiday every year shortly before its arrival.  While a Presidential Proclamation is nice, we know what moms REALLY want for Mother's Day this year. How do we know? Simple ... we asked!  More than 50 moms responded to our question and the answers were sweet, funny, and surprisingly similar. Monday, June 4 - Storytime at Leu Gardens

Spend quality time as a family for Safety Day.  Workshops teach children do-it-yourself skills and tool safety along with instilling a sense of pride and accomplishment.  All kids get to keep their craft and receive a FREE Kids Workshop Apron, commemorative pin and certificate of achievement.  Kids can build a planter box and add plants for a touch of color.  Kids will learn to build their very own planter box while learning tool safety.  Have fun, make friends and gain a sense of achievement and work ethic.  You can paint and add embellishments to your project   while at the workshop.

Supplies for Plantable Paper
 Napkins - in various colors
Plastic container with screw top lid
Flower seeds
Strainer/Collander
Wax paper
Cookie cutter - large enough to place your fingers in
Towels - 2 to 3
Cooling rack (optional)


Supplies for Greeting Card 
 Construction paper
Double-sided tape (or other adhesive)

Mother's Day Handprint Flower Pot

Moms love flowers, and what better way to show Mom how much you love her than with this wonderful homemade present for Mom on Mother's Day.  For the past couple years my kids have made these handprint flower pots for both of their Grandmothers on Mother's Day.

Materials:

  • Clay flower pot
  • Acrylic paint
  • Paintbrushes
  • Pencil
  • Clear acrylic sealer in gloss or matte

Optional materials:

  • Potting Soil
  • Flowers

First, trace your child's hands onto the flower pot. Then help your child paint the flower pot and hand prints ...

Summer vacation is just not the same without some summer camp fun.  Whether you need camp for the whole summer, a few weeks or just a few days here and there, check out the camps listed in our 2012 Summer Camp Guide.

Adoptable Pets Of The Week

Macaroni Kid Lake Mary is working with T.E.A.R.S of Seminole County to bring together families and loveable pets who need a good home.  Each week, we will present one cat and one dog that will be up for adoption and provide information on how they could become part of your family.  Remember, a pet is a serious commitment that the whole family needs to support and love.  Think carefully before deciding to open your home to one of these adorable animals.
